The best marketing doesn't tell—it makes people wonder.
Take Blendtec's "Will It Blend?" campaign.
They could have listed specs:
1,560 watts of power
13 different blend settings
Commercial-grade blades
Instead, they asked a simple question and blended an iPhone.
The result? Millions of views and record sales.
Why did it work? Because curiosity is more powerful than information.
Your audience doesn't want to be lectured. They want to be intrigued.
Next time you write copy, try this: Instead of stating a benefit, hint at it. Instead of making a claim, pose a question. Instead of showing everything, reveal juuuuust enough.
Give them a reason to lean in, not a reason to scroll past.

Must-Read Articles
How Import Tariffs Might Hit One Industry Disproportionately (via Retail Brew)
Why I recommend it 👉 In recent weeks, I received messages from numerous people about how Trump’s tariffs could affect some of the brands we work with at Homestead. This was a good read.
TL;DR: it’s messy no matter how you dice it. Additionally, this report as well as this response from Shopify indicate prices will more than likely continue to increase.
Content and Messaging Strategies for Long-Lifespan Products (via MarketingProfs)
Why I recommend it 👉 If you write for a brand whose products last forever, then you might wonder what an effective retention strategy could look like (I know I do at times). This article tackles that topic, as well as how you might cross-sell or upsell customers. To be transparent, finding ways to multiple and add value for brands in this category are challenging (but not impossible). A lot of great strategic angles here.
How Psychology Built This $4B Clothing Brand (via Choice Hacking)
Why I recommend it 👉 You’ve heard me say it a million times by this point, but there’s value in learning to do few things well. This is a great example of what that looks like in action. In Vuori’s case, they tackled ONE problem and made it their mission to solve it. Repeating your mission and purpose over and over and over and over and over again seems redundant, but it carves how a space in your prospects mind that only your brand can fill.

Zen and the Art of Spontaneous Copywriting (Matt Furey)
Listen on iTunes | Listen on Spotify
Why I recommend it 👉 This is a quick listen (especially if you listen to podcasts at 1.25x speed like me). But I enjoyed what Matt Furey had to say about “spontaneous copywriting,” which isn’t as spontaneous as he let’s on. It’s more about trusting yourself, especially if you’re a seasoned writer.
In today’s world of templates and systems and this-has-to-be-done-that-ways, it’s a great reminder for all of us.

Pretty Fly Copy
HUMM KOMBUCHA
Format: Email
Why I like it 👉 What don’t I like about this email? It was fun. I like this simple yet effective value prop: Two billion probiotics and zero calories. It’s a simple campaign but frames the benefits packed into their product so well.
TUMBLE
Format: Email
Why I like it 👉 This is a great example of the Rule of One at play. It’s written to parents and framed around a specific problem: kids + rugs (if you know, you know).
DOSE
Format: Email
Why I like it 👉 I wrote recently that customers don’t trust you, but they do trust each other. This campaign from Dose is a great way to leverage that reality, and they did so by sharing a customer review and framing it as a testimonial about the results their product had for them. A fantastic social proof campaign.
DUOLINGO
Format: Ad
Why I like it 👉 There are a lot of reasons: 1) It’s a great marketing stunt; 2) It evokes curiosity; 3) It’s on-brand and snarky AF; and 4) Dua Lipa, I guess. But primarily, it’s a more creative way to say “Hey, we’re going in a new direction with our brand and wanted to let you know.”
