Before you dive into today’s post, I have an announcement! I’ve launched my first-ever micro-course for copywriters!
It’s called, Less is More: 5 Principles for Clear, Effective Copy. While the pilot course is already under way, it’ll open back up in February 2025.
If you’re reading this today and you’re located in the United States, Happy Thanksgiving to you! If you’re not, then know Thanksgiving is a wild holiday here.
It’s a day jam-packed with gratitude for all we have and we celebrate by overindulging in unhealthy foods, contentious conversations with relatives we hardly see, and football (the American kind 🏈).
That said, I’m choosing to lean into the generosity side of gratitude (because gratitude is something you give, not something you have), and share some of my favorite email newsletters with you.
My Favorite Email Newsletters
None of these marketers or brands asked me to do this (though there are referral links with some of these below – because freebies!). I’m simply doing it because I enjoy the content they continuously put out week after week (or day after day).
If one of them piques your interest, consider subscribing and sending them a note of encouragement. Those tiny acts of kindness go a long way 🙂
Simon Harper – an email geek G.O.A.T. If you’re in email marketing and not subscribed to his newsletter, what are you even doing?? From actionable insights to links to stellar resources, Simon’s dishing out some of the best email marketing content week after week.
Andy King has been churning out A+ content via Email Love for quite a while. His newsletters contain top-tier email examples for adding to your swipe file, email marketing tips, and recommended resources. If you’re ever lacking inspo, this is a good resource.
Charlene Burke has been in the email marketing game for some time and she’s consistently sharing knowledge both for free (and paid) that should honestly all be gated. It’s so good, valuable, and actionable – definitely worth subscribing to if you want to improve your email copywriting chops!
I met Grace many moons ago in my membership with The Copywriter Club hosted by Rob Marsh and Kira Hug. Grace is a prolific B2B/SaaS copywriter and marketer. Her ability to distill copy into its most simple and impactful form is more akin to an art above all else. That aside, she does a damn fine job of sharing her secrets with easy-to-copy advice. Every edition of her newsletter is packed with value. Highly recommend.
When I need easy-to-read digital marketing news, these guys deliver, Monday through Friday. It helps me stay on top of the latest trends and they also do a good job of spilling industry “tea.”
I’m technically a middle manager in my day job and Wes’ insights have been insanely beneficial for me as a manager and leader. From managing up to leading well, her newsletters have been a must-read for me every time.
This is one of the few newsletters I read every single issue of (it’s a daily occurrence). But it gives me the top news stories circulating the globe, predominantly the ones that, to some degree, affect my day job (or social life). Love it.
Same family as Morning Brew, but solely focused on the retail industry (i.e. news, trends, shocking stats, etc.). I find it provides extremely valuable insights applicable to some of the brands I work with at Homestead.
Also a sibling of the Morning/Retail Brew clan. But its sole focus is marketing. Highly relevant news, interviews, and highlights that are also relevant to my day job.
Eddie Shleyner is legit a national treasure and [my] copywriting hero. He’s highly regarded as one of the biggest influencers in the copywriting space, and as someone who’s followed him for years, it’s been fun watching his career absolutely skyrocket. But he shells out gem after gem for writers of all types and I admire his wisdom when it comes to creativity. He knows how to ‘keep the main thing the main thing’ in the most poetic of ways. If I ever get the chance to meet him face-to-face, I’ll probably just hug him and then buy him coffee to chat about fatherhood.
Saas, eComm, freelancing – Samar Owais is a deeeeeeeeep well of knowledge. I met Samar through mutual contacts in the copywriting world, enrolled in her eCommerce Boot Camp years ago, and it absolutely changed the trajectory of my career. I was able to meet her in person back in 2022 and she is certainly just as delightful and kind in person as she is over Zoom calls. Just subscribe to her newsletter. You’ll be glad you did.
I know I missed a sh*t ton of others, but these all came to the top of my mind first thing.
